Personal loan without a salary slip: what lenders may check
- 3 days ago
- 4 min read

A personal loan may be available without a formal salary slip, but not without evidence of income and repayment capacity. Depending on the lender’s policy, alternatives may include recent bank statements, recurring salary credits, Form 16, an ITR, employment verification or other financial records. Approval, pricing and the documents accepted are never guaranteed.
.
“Without a salary slip” does not mean “without income proof”
.
A salary slip is one way a lender can verify employment and income. It is not the only possible evidence. People working for small employers, on contracts or in other arrangements may receive regular income without a conventional payslip.
Every regulated lender still has to assess the applicant and complete applicable KYC and credit checks. The exact documents and data requested depend on the lender, the applicant’s profile and the available offer.
.
What a lender may check instead
.
Subject to its policy and your consent, a lender may consider:
recent bank statements and identifiable salary or income credits;
Form 16, an income-tax return or other tax records;
an employment letter, contract or employer verification;
invoices or business financial records for eligible self-employed applicants;
existing repayment obligations and credit-bureau information; and
identity, address and other KYC documents.
Providing an alternative document does not guarantee approval. Incomplete, inconsistent or unverifiable information may lead to a request for more evidence or to the application being declined.
.
What to check before sharing documents or account data
.
Use the lender or LSP’s official website or app. Before you consent, check:
which regulated bank or NBFC will provide the offer;
why each document or data permission is requested;
how consent can be withdrawn where applicable;
the privacy policy and grievance contact; and
whether the final Key Fact Statement clearly shows the APR, fees, repayment schedule and total cost.
NIRA is operated by Shuhari Tech Ventures Private Limited and acts as a Loan Service Provider facilitating offers from regulated lending partners. The selected lender assesses the application and, if approved, issues the loan.
NIRA’s current privacy disclosures state that it does not access the device contact list. Transactional SMS data may be processed for disclosed assessment purposes; personal messages, OTPs and sensitive account details are filtered out and not stored. Camera, microphone or location access may be requested for specific onboarding or KYC steps with consent. Read the current Privacy Policy before proceeding.
.
Compare the offer, not only the document list
.
A shorter document list does not automatically make a loan safer or cheaper. Compare:
the lender named in the offer;
the sanctioned amount and repayment period;
the nominal interest rate and APR;
processing fees, taxes and any other charges;
the net amount credited after upfront deductions;
the EMI schedule and total amount repayable; and
late-payment, prepayment and grievance terms.
The applicant-specific KFS and loan agreement are definitive. Loan amount, tenure, pricing, fees and eligibility depend on the lending partner, applicant profile and available offer.

.
How to prepare before applying
.
Check that your name and income information are consistent across the documents you plan to provide.
Keep recent, unedited records from official sources.
Review existing EMIs and decide whether another repayment is affordable.
Avoid making many applications in a short period.
Read the complete KFS before accepting any offer.

Frequently asked questions
.
Can I get a personal loan without a salary slip?
Possibly. Some lenders may accept alternative evidence of income, such as bank statements, recurring income credits, Form 16, an ITR or employment verification. Accepted documents and approval depend on the lender’s policy and your profile.
Is a bank statement enough for approval?
Not necessarily. A lender may also review KYC information, employment or business details, existing obligations and credit-bureau information. A bank statement by itself does not guarantee eligibility or approval.
Does “without salary slip” mean “no documents”?
No. A regulated lending process still requires applicable KYC, eligibility and credit checks. Be cautious of any app that promises a guaranteed no-document loan or asks for unnecessary device access.
Who provides a loan offered through NIRA?
NIRA acts as an LSP that facilitates offers from regulated lending partners. The selected bank or NBFC assesses and sanctions the loan and is identified in the offer documents.
What should I compare before accepting an offer?
Compare the APR, all fees, net disbursal, EMI schedule, total repayment, late-payment terms, prepayment terms and grievance process. The KFS and loan agreement for your offer are definitive.
.
Check your eligibility carefully
.
You can use the official NIRA app on Google Play to check whether an offer may be available. Completing an application does not guarantee approval. Eligibility and all loan terms depend on the selected lending partner, your profile and the offer shown to you.
